I’m a firm believer that accommodation is a huge part of the travel experience. It can turn a great trip into a truly memorable one. Whether it’s a luxury hotel, a unique and quirky property, a cabin in the woods or a classy hotel, I don’t have a preference, so long as its good! Les Petites Maisons Arin most certainly fits that description.
The French region of Brittany has some really lovely holiday accommodation which can make it hard to decide between. I think any summer trip should include a few days by the ocean. There’s something so calming about being near the sea and getting to wake up to those views is always a great way to start a day. If you’re looking for somewhere next to the water, look no further than Les Petites Maisons Arin. Last month we escaped for a night to this charming set of cottages and had such a wonderful stay that the memories still keep coming back to mind and putting a smile on my face.
Les Petites Maisons Arin
A row of three former fisherman’s cottages, you’ll find Les Petites Maisons Arin on the Pointe de Kerarzic in Paimpol bay. The cottages on this little peninsula look out towards the gorgeous Abbaye de Beauport and the Bréhat archipelago, a small archipelago, made up of around 100 islands and home to 400 people. The location makes a lovely first impression as you pull up the drive and are greeted by the sight of the tree lined bay with its waters shimmering in the sunlight.
Step inside and you’ll find stylish and elegant interiors, complete with a fully equipped kitchen so you can cook away to your hearts content. The cottages have been beautifully restored and turned into a cosy haven for travellers like you and I. You’ll find linen cushions and bed sheets, a beautiful mural wall and soft pastel furnishings which make the living rooms a place you want to linger, looking out the floor to ceiling windows into the garden beyond.
Inside the end cottage, Ty Mam Goz, you’ll find a lovely bright living space with a spectacular panoramic view out over the Beauport cove and the Abbaye de Beauport. This is also the direction the sun sets in an evening so you’ll be treated to an incredible sunset from the comfort of your living room.
In the morning you can enjoy a wander along the sands on the shore, always a favourite with Heidi and Daddy who enjoy looking for crabs, pretty multicoloured little pebbles and seashells. On the peninsula you’ll also find the family oyster farm which is run by Soizic’s husband, where you can tuck into some fresh local oysters. A little further down the road there is a hydrangea farm which, although not in bloom during our stay, I can imagine would look amazing in the summer months! A carpet of flowers is always a good thing in my eyes. In an evening make sure to enjoy a glass of cool white wine at the table outside where you can drink in the mesmerising sunset views along with your vin blanc.
If you want to venture out for an afternoon, there are some truly fantastic places close by. There’s the picture perfect Kerdalo Gardens, the medieval fortress that is Chateau de La Roche Jagu and the most charming, idyllic villages such as Pontrieux. However you spend your time in Brittany, returning to Les Petites Maisons Arin after a day of exploring this charming corner of the world is a wonderful way to end the day.
