On one of my final days in Ireland my sisters boyfriend took us to see his parents who live in Burt, technically in Southern Ireland but geographically we headed north west. He took us to his parents lovely home, which his father informed me he had built himself (a task that took him an entire year – not bad going doing it all yourself!) and had stunning views from the front garden overlooking the Drongawn Lough! We had a quick potter about and then he thought we might like to go and see Grianan of Aileach, identified as one of the ancient royal sites of Gaelic Ireland and now a national monument. And boy did we love it! Perched on the top of a hill with views for miles around in all directions, it was not hard to see why this spot had been chosen.
A short but very sweet visit!
