There is nothing like a walk in the countryside to inspire you.
Being located in Derbyshire, I am blessed with so many stunning spots to take a wander. One of these, closest to my home is Staunton Harold, a relatively small estate just to the south of the beautiful villages of Melbourne and Ticknall and right next to the fabulous National Trust treasure of Calke Abbey.
The estate is made up of the old hall, which is now privately owned, complete with church which is also run by the National Trust. Next to the hall is a brilliant garden centre, full of all manner of herbs, vegetable and fruit plants you could possibly be after. These are, after all, the best things to be planting. You get the wonderful reward of being able to eat your own produce. This is the only kind of gardening that I can be inspired to do!
I’m visiting neither of these on this outing though. This venture is in the direction of the reservoir. The ideal spot for a walk leading through the country meadows and onto the Calke Abbey estate if the legs are up to it. We’ve not had many decent days this month, actually let me make that this year! More often than not the drizzle has been pouring down..but today, the sun finally appeared!
So here’s to making the most of it.
